Troubleshooting

Resolve common issues with layouts, AI edits, Grid slide cells, saving, and export.

Layout Import Fails

If importing a .pptx file fails:

  • Confirm the file is a valid .pptx.
  • Remove password protection.
  • Try a smaller file with fewer slides.
  • Remove embedded videos or complex animations.
  • Check whether the file is still open or locked by another application.
  • Retry after refreshing the page.

If only one slide is problematic, import a simplified version of the deck or remove that slide before importing.

Imported Layout Does Not Appear

If a layout is missing from Use layout or From layout...:

  • Search by layout name.
  • Clear the category filter by choosing All.
  • Refresh the page to reload the layout catalog.
  • Check whether the layout was saved as Private or Organization.
  • Confirm you are using an account with permission to see the layout.

If another user saved the layout privately, ask them to change visibility or save an organization copy.

AI Edits The Wrong Slide

If AI changes the wrong page:

  • Select the intended slide in the slide list before sending the request.
  • Choose Current page instead of All pages.
  • Refer to the slide number or visible title in your instruction.
  • Use an element ID when several objects look similar.

Example:

"On the current page only, update the chart with element ID revenue_chart. Do not change any other slides."

Element ID Not Found

If AI says it cannot find an element ID:

  • Recopy the ID from the layout details preview.
  • Confirm the ID belongs to the layout or slide you are editing.
  • Check whether the object was deleted or replaced.
  • Describe the object visually as a fallback.

Example fallback:

"Update the large chart on the right side of the current page."

Unsaved Changes

If your latest edits are not reflected:

  • Check whether Save is enabled in the Slides panel.
  • Click Save before closing the panel.
  • If prompted on exit, choose Save instead of Discard.
  • If you restored a version, review and save the restored deck before exporting.

Export also saves the latest edits before creating the .pptx. If saving fails, export will not complete.

Citation Badge Is Missing

If you expected a citation badge but do not see one:

  • Turn citations on from the Slides panel header.
  • Exit presentation mode, because presentation mode hides citation badges.
  • Check whether the object was manually rewritten after generation.
  • If the deck came from a Grid row, confirm the source column still contains the row value you expected.
  • Ask AI to update the slide from the cited source again, or add visible source text manually if the exported deck needs sources.

Citation badges only appear when the slide object has source metadata. Hiding badges does not remove metadata, but rewriting or replacing an object may leave the new object uncited.

Citation Preview Does Not Open

If a citation badge opens no source or the wrong source:

  • Save the deck and refresh the Slides panel.
  • For Grid citations, confirm you still have access to the Grid and the cited row output.
  • For document or web citations, confirm the source document is still available to the workspace.
  • Re-run the row or ask AI to regenerate the slide from the current source context if the original source changed.

Export Fails

If Export to PPTX fails:

  • Save the deck and retry.
  • Check whether generation or another edit is still running.
  • Remove or replace unusually large images.
  • Try exporting after refreshing the page.
  • If the deck was opened from a Grid row, confirm that row's slide generation has finished.

If the exported file opens but looks wrong, review image sizes, chart labels, and any objects placed near slide edges.

Grid Row Slide Does Not Open

If Open slides does not open from a Grid cell:

  • Confirm the column is a Canvas Slide column.
  • Wait for the row generation to finish.
  • Re-run the row if the cell failed.
  • Refresh the Grid and try again.
  • Check whether you have permission to view the Grid and generated output.

If the cell still does not open, re-run the specific row rather than the whole Grid.

Generation Is Still Running

While a Canvas Slide cell is running or queued, wait for the status to finish before opening or exporting the deck.

You can:

  • Use the row or cell status to confirm it is still running.
  • Open processing steps when available.
  • Wait for the current run to finish before re-running.
  • Re-run the row if the status is stuck after a long delay.

Avoid editing a deck while the same row is actively regenerating, because the next generated result may replace the in-progress version.

Save As Layout Fails

If Save as Layout fails:

  • Enter a layout name.
  • Choose a different name if one already exists.
  • Enable overwrite only when you intend to replace the existing layout.
  • Confirm you have permission to save with the selected visibility.
  • Try a simpler category or refresh the layout catalog.

After saving, reopen Use layout and search for the layout name to confirm it appears.
